Birkenhead Gymnastics Academy

Birkenhead Gymnastics Academy was originally named West Kirby Gymnastics Club and was formed some 30 years ago. It started as a recreational club. This was developed by dedicated unpaid coaches into a thriving club of Women’s and Men’s Artistic, Sports Acrobatics and Recreational gymnastics.

In 1987 the club moved to Hoylake. This move meant that we could have unlimited training time. Unfortunately, over the course of time, the building deteriorated, costs escalated and the search was on again for a larger and more secure training place.

A school in Prenton was found, which had a gymnasium, but for many years it had been used only as a storage area. A lot of work was needed to put the building into a good condition. A new floor had to be laid, internal restructuring, heating and much more. Walls were removed and windows replaced with reinforced glass. The result of all the hard work put in by coaches, parents and gymnasts was the training facility we have today; and only two days training were lost.

Recently (August 2011) we have undergone a £85,000.00 refurbishment making the gym one of the best equipped in the Wirral, our facility includes Continental performance sprung floor, tumble track and fast track.
