The world is an exciting place, full of endless possibilities. It changes at a bewildering rate, with our lives increasingly interdependent and technology ever more important and sophisticated. At Ridgeway, we aim to give young people the confidence and the skills to find their place in the world and to make the most of their future.

Ridgeway provides a curriculum tailored to meet the needs of every individual, centred on the ‘core’ subjects of English, Maths, Science and ICT. As an outward-looking school, we build links with, and a better understanding of, the local community and the world beyond. Those links are strengthened by the study of a foreign language, developing both communication skills and a wider sense of citizenship and belonging. Through enterprise education, we aim to mould lively, enquiring minds with our young people able to question, challenge, solve problems and overcome difficulties, confident working either independently or as part of a larger team. Our focus on technology and business education prepares youngsters for the challenges and opportunities of the new century. We aim to foster their aesthetic awareness through art, drama and music as well as an understanding of what it means to be a human being and a sense of how our society has developed.

Every child is valued at Ridgeway. We are proud to be an all-ability school that serves the local community and welcome students from a wide variety of backgrounds. We promote tolerance and respect for other races, religions, countries and cultures, seeking to build relationships based on mutual respect between teachers and students and between youngsters themselves. Ridgeway puts rights and responsibilities at the heart of our behaviour management policy.

Of course, school is about more than lessons and exams – important though these things are. Alongside a wide range of sporting opportunities, we encourage young people to make informed lifestyle choices in order to remain fit and healthy. We reward effort, hard work and perseverance. We teach students to value our environment and we recognise the need to promote sustainable development for the long-term future. Although we accept that problems exist in the outside world, we firmly believe that education is the silver bullet for a better tomorrow.

At Ridgeway, we want our young people to feel safe, secure and happy, to enjoy themselves and to be successful. We dedicate ourselves to helping them achieve success and the fulfilment of their dreams and aspirations.
