The Oldershaw Academy

The Oldershaw Academy

Welcome to The Oldershaw Academy. We are a large mixed 11-18 high school which has a proud history successfully working with the Wallasey community providing excellent education for over 90 years.

The Academy has a strong partnership with over 20 primary schools and serves a wide geographical area including Wallasey, Moreton and Birkenhead.

We believe in high standards in all areas of school life and deliver rich and challenging educational experience to every student.

As a ‘school for all’ we cater for our most able and talented students and ensure that they are able to fulfil their potential. We identify the most academically gifted students and provide an express group throughout Key Stage 3 to enable them to make rapid progress and start GCSE courses early.

At The Oldershaw School we believe that all pupils should have access to a curriculum suited to their needs and abilities. We are committed to providing a high quality education for all pupils whatever their need.

Our Special Needs Department provides support for pupils who are experiencing difficulty with any aspect of the curriculum. The pupils are placed on the school’s Special Years 7 – 9.

Pupils in Years 7, 8 and 9 who require special help because of specific learning difficulties are placed within a small group for certain core subjects such as Mathematics and English, where they can receive help from staff especially skilled in this area. Individual help is also provided where appropriate and some pupils are supporting in mainstream lessons by non-teaching assistants.

With the Curriculum we:

  • aim to enable students to achieve the highest academic standards
  • link academic and pastoral strands in order to realise the full potential of each individual
  • be available to all students and promote equal opportunities in order to eradicate prejudice based on gender, race, disability or any other attribute.
  • include an element of choice where possible so that students can negotiate their own course appropriate to their maturity, abilities and interest
  • be broad, balanced and at an appropriate level, with coherent progression to the next step – A Levels, further training, apprenticeship or direct employment.
  • be linked with the community and with Partner Primary Schools, local Secondary Schools and the Higher and Further Education sectors
  • be under constant review in order to keep pace with the needs of students, the community and the demands of government initiatives.
